Tacos in the USA
We’re starting off strong with the fish taco. This savory pocket of goodness was invented right here in America - in Baja, California to be exact. Filled with deep-fried fish, shredded cabbage, salsa, and a mayo-based sauce, this coastal meal is finished off with some lime juice and folded up in a tortilla. Originating somewhere between the 50’s - 60’s, the fish taco is still most popular in Baja, but this pocket of the sea is featured on many menus across the nation.
Italian Tacos
Italy’s stab at the taco birthed the piada, a sandwich of sorts which contains meat, cheese, and tomatoes all folded together in a flatbread in the iconic taco-like shape. The piada’s room for interpretation has allowed for an infinite amount of ways to create this Italian taco. There are entire generations that have created their own unique recipe for the piada. The Korean Taco’s Surprising Origins
While the Korean taco contains common Korean ingredients like kimchi and bulgogi, this Asian dish actually originated in Los Angeles as a street food in the late 2000’s.
